Topic 5: Water World
Our topic for Summer 1 is ‘Water World’. The children will be learning about the uses of water and the importance of saving it. They will learn about the Water Cycle and about the features and locations of rivers using maps.
English – We will begin the term looking at the text ‘A River’ where we will be creating our own journey narratives based on a river walk, focussing on exciting descriptions of settings.
Then we’ll be reading ‘Once Upon A Raindrop’ to learn more about the water cycle. We’ll be using the text as inspiration for an informative poem based on the water cycle.
Maths – The children will be looking at fractions and finding fractions of objects and amounts. They will then move onto learning about measures involving length and perimeter. They will measure accurately using a range of equipment and will calculate the perimeter of a range of shapes.
History - The children will continue their learning from the previous half-term and begin to move through History by beginning to learn about The Celts.
PE – The children will be doing uni-hoc within their outdoors learning and then indoors they will complete indoor athletics.
DT – The children will be learning sewing techniques to make their own felt sea animals.
PSHE – Identity, society and equality including learning about community and belonging.
RE – This half term the children will be learning about the significance of ‘Water’ as a symbol in the bible and how rivers are used in religious customs.
Music – The children will be using a range of instruments to create water sounds. They will learn about pitch, tempo and texture.
Computing – This half term the children will be introduced to using Powerpoint to make presentations
