Topic 6 – Under the Sea
For the second half of the Summer term our topic will be Under the Sea. We will be thinking and learning about:
Science:
- identifying and naming a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
- describing and comparing the structure of a variety of common animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals including pets).
Geography:
- name and locate the world’s 7 continents and 5 oceans.
- use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents and oceans.
Literacy: We will be writing sentences and thinking about adding adjectives and conjunctions into them. We will also be focussing on reading our work back and editing it. We will be writing both fiction and non-fiction in this topic including, a fact file, riddles and a letter.
Phonics: We will have daily phonics lessons and follow the Letters and Sounds programme. We will be securing phase 5 and focusing on applying the phonemes we know in our reading.
Maths: Number – Counting forwards and backwards in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Revising doubling and halving. Working out missing numbers and deepening our knowledge about the equals sign. Measure – Measuring weight using grams. Learning about the different notes and their values. Shape – Revising 2D and 3D shapes and finding them in the surroundings.
IT: We will be focussing on programming and will be using Bee bots and designing our own mats for them to travel on. We also use ICT to support both our maths and English lessons.
PE: Indoors on Tuesdays. Outdoor PE on Wednesday afternoons - weather dependent so please have PE kit available in school at all times so we can make the most of dry weather! We will be using the gym equipment during inside PE and focusing on team games and partner work in outside PE.
